I desperately wish I could live in Quebec.
I'm from Brazil and... things here are as bad as they are in the US. Being a homosexual here, means having about 75 rights denied.
I almost felt like crying as I was reading the article... I'm verry happy that gays have equal rights in Canada, but reading about the rights canadians have means reading about the rights I'm being denied... =/

Hey there - love the blog! We're a gay professional (ish) couple living in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada (I'm not sure any list would of gayest cities would be long enough to find Mississauga...but our mayor is 88 and she is fierce!) who just launched a blog about living gay life (with three kids, no less) in what's essentially a suburb of Toronto. Check it out, sometime!

I'm definitely a fan of outprofessopnials - congrats!

I am not sure that a BOYCOTT of Hawaii is the answer to Gov. Lingle's veto. She cannot run for re-election as she is currently in her second term. And that term ends in a few months. A mere boycott sends a message, but is it the right message? Hawaii is already feeling the pains of reduced toursim thanks to the down turn in the economy. Tourism has been Hawaii's leading industry and employs a great number of people. Many Jobs are already lost in the tourism industry of Hawaii and many more will be lost with a boycott. Gov. Lingle will feel no pain when Hotel employees, travel industry employees, restaurant waiters, tour guides, etc..lose their jobs. If we boycott Hawaii, shouldn't we boycott every state that has FAILED to pass bills aimed at affording equal rights to LGBT people? We should contact businesses in Hawaii and ask them if they supported the bill or opposed or did nothing. They need to know we are upset and will not support them and perhaps not travel to Hawaii if they do not support us and equal rights for all. Both houses of congress in Hawaii passed the bill. That is a very good sign and a change in the tenor of the state. A small, but significant positive point to build upon. ONE PERSON, vetoed the bill. She could have simply NOT signed it and the bill would have been enacted into law without her official approval but she decided to make a statement anyway. Statements must be made, but how is Hawaii any different from Wisconsin, or New York, or Florida who have failed to pass LGBT equality legislation when they had the chance? We need to target companies and businesses who do not support us and convince them it is their economic interest to favor equal rights. To punish people who might be supporting us while trying to punish those who oppose us at the same time will hurt our cause. We need to build a network of allies, not add to our list of opposition.

As someone who has been advocating for equality for the past twenty years in the UK. I am encouraged by the news that iceland is moving towards equality with marriage. However I am sadened when I read news like this.

For me it is why we cannot give up and any movement backwards must be fought vigourously.
