Interesting question. It's definitely a tough one. I think the play has a good possibility of doing well. First, real New York theater enthusiasts will come out to see it. After that, I think it'll be word of mouth that will get people, telling them it's a really funny play and a good story, and that'll get the rest of the crowds in. I think the work is really dramatic, but the play does have a LOT of laughs. Comedy always draws people in.

In case you're interested, here's my review. http://www.stage-rush.com/2010/03/review-next-fall.html

The irony that the words "Jesus" "Heart" and "Sacred" are in the name of their school seem to be lost on them entirely. I appreciate the protester pointing out the hypocrisy in the school's decision here. Are they also screening for unmarried parents living together?

In addition to participating in the Vietnam Anti-war Movement prior to the JFK escalation, Black Civil Rights Movement before MOW, Feminist Movement before birth of NOW and Disability Rights Movement before establishment of DIA or NAMI, I participated in the rallies, protests and demonstrations after Stonewall which have since come to be known as the "Three Days of Rage." The first two college courses explicit on homosexuality were taught by a celebrated Black Studies scholar by the name of Martin Duberman at Lehman College of the City University of New York in the fall of 1971 and spring of 1972. Duberman was also at Stonewall on the night of the raid and has written one of the two best histories of that event. While I will not deny that Duberman -- a mentor of mine -- was brave, courageous and bold, he was also tenured. The second two courses were taught by a lecturer named Gregory Kane through the interdisciplinary studies program at my alma mater, Queens College of CUNY in the fall of 1972 and the spring of 1973. When Mr. Kane went to get his two year contract renewed in history department he was fired, never to teach again until he died of AIDS a few years later.
At that point, they opined that there was not a college or university in the country which would hire me and advised me to enroll in law school. If you have not read the comments on the Harris article, you may find them to be instructive -- especially my own:) One of the problems with transmission of history from older to younger LGBT is that unlike other communities (for example: the Asian & Jewish ones with which I gather you are familiar), the age divide in the Queer community impedes such transmission. If you have not seen Gay Indonesian director/actor Edward Gunawan's short, "The Laundromat," I highly recommend it. Gunawan has also spoken of and written about the unique Gay generation gap.
The first urban studies major at my college and only ethnologist in the
department, my current research interest focuses on how homosexuality manifests itself in different ethnic communities. I would be curious to know the reason for your "secretive viewings" of Gay programming? For you: TV programs comprised "key parts of [your] queer cultural quilt." For me: the Names Project comprised a key part of my queer poltical quilt. I guess you could say that we both had quilt complexes just of a different sort. LOL Say hello to Michael Crawford for me.

In this case I think it was appropriate to remove hints of a gay romance from the movie trailer. The reveal was meant as a surprise plot twist—one that would have been completely flattened had the trailer somehow provided a spoiler. NY Mag is trying to make hey out of something this really quite innocuous.

Tripe? Come on! Valentine's Day was a cute little feel-good romance movie, and one finally intended for Gay and straight audiences alike. Be kind.

GLAAD hasn't been doing its job for years. Signorile is offering an explanation as to why. If GLAAD wants to provide another one and show a plan of action to address that other cause, fine. The main point is that GLAAD is terribly broken and needs to be fixed.
