So Maine became the latest state last night to vote down equal marriage rights for same-sex couples.
Remember, this had been made state law. This vote repealed the law. That makes it even scarier.
On the bright side, it’ll make our December 3 event with Tara Siegel Bernard of The New York Times and Gary Gates of UCLA Law School even more relevant.
They’ll be talking about Siegel’s front-page October story, The High Cost of Being a Gay Couple. RSVP here.
Read more about last night’s depressing results. And think twice before you book an Ogunquit vacation.

One of the reasons my partner and I moved to Canada is – US doesn’t recognize same sex marriage. We are a bi-national couple and it hurts to see that my partner’s country treats her as a second class citizen. It also hurts to know that she had to choose between her home country and a person she loved. Even sadder is the fact that state officials think that it is okay to grant somebody rights and then take them away like nothing happened. How can they sleep at night knowing that they have taken away human rights and that they have potentially damaged peoples lives? it is so hypocritical…
