Yesterday, we mentioned the UK magazine Diva had praised Starlite Lounge, the rumored-to-be-dead Brooklyn bar.
The Diva story is also worth a look for its rather tragic assessment of NYC’s women’s scene:
“Many complain that the New York lesbian scene is dead.
“Even those involved admit that the nightlife has suffered from rocketing Manhattan rents, tougher licensing laws for dancing venues, a lack of influential new party promoters and the lingering buzz-kill of the terrorist attacks of September 11 2001.”
PS – UPDATE: We reported Starlite had closed; Brooklynian, where the rumor appeared, says the closing’s imminent, but hasn’t happened.
