We’re in Toronto for a few days, which is always good for reminding us how neanderthal New York can still feel sometimes.
Anyway, we thought this column from today’s Toronto Star had universal appeal; after a few gay bars closed on the main strip here, columnist Brent Ledger asks whether the whole notion of bars as gay gathering places has lost its meaning.
That’s Zelda’s, in the photo, which left the Church Street gay strip last week. It plans to repoen somewhere else, but still.
We asked the same thing about gay neighborhoods a few weeks ago. In the age of the internet and integration, are they still relevant?
PS - Coincidentally, Montreal’s oldest gay bar closed its doors when we were there last month. But we swear, it’s not us.
