Straight woman on Olivia cruise has revelation about lesbian life

When San Francisco Chronicle reporter Beth Spotswood won an Olivia cruise in a San Francisco Gay Pride raffle, she didn’t let her heterosexuality stop her from enjoying her prize.

In fact – like a good reporter – she used it as a learning opportunity about lesbian life.

The results, in a blog today, are quite poignant – and make us think lesbian and gay cruises should become mandatory for straight people:

“Living in San Francisco, I easily forget that other parts of the country don’t take too kindly to homosexuality being ‘shoved in their faces.’

“Our ship is packed with hundreds of couples holding hands, rubbing shoulders, stroking hair…couple-y stuff everyone should get to do.

“It was little overwhelming at first, like I’d landed on everyone’s honeymoon. But I’ve realized that for many of these women, they can finally relax and be themselves.

“It’s gorgeous and bittersweet.

“It also makes sense why an Olivia trip is such an attractive option for so many women. The staff is doing a serious job of making everyone feel at home and part of the Olivia family.”
