Do lesbian and gay parents feel they have to overcompensate by acting perfect?
A new study seems to say yes.
“Middle class gay men and lesbians in the UK are attempting to portray themselves as ’super parents’ in an effort to counteract inequality and discrimination, according to latest research,” reports UK site Lesbilicious.
“Deeply inscribed class ideas and practices still affect how lesbian and gay parents create a ‘respectable’ and legitimate route into parenting.
“The concept of what makes a family may be more fluid today, but it is still clearly defined by society’s values and is governed by a yard stick of what is ‘normal’ and ‘proper’.”
